Description
The building is a former tithe barn that was later converted into a coach house and stables, located 70 meters south of The Old Rectory. It dates back to the early 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The structure is timber framed, previously plastered but now covered with cement render or weatherboarding on three sides. It features a hipped roof that is slated and from the 19th century.
On the northeast side, there are two boarded doors and a pair of large boarded doors that provide access to the central cart entrance. The frame consists of five bays, with tie beams that have very heavy arched braces, all of which are intact. Each brace has a small horizontal tie connecting it to the main post. The building has full-height studding, and some tension braces are halved against the outside of the studs. The south bay has been rebuilt using straight primary braces, while the studding in the north bay was reconstructed in the mid-20th century. The two southern bays have been floored over. There is evidence that the original roof was of the queen-post type. This building is included for its group value with nearby structures.
