Description

Lodge Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-16th century, with a slightly later former dairy wing at the rear. At the time of the survey in October 1986, a further rear wing was under construction. The building is timber framed; the front ground floor is clad in colourwashed brick, while the first floor features exposed studding, which was re-faced in the mid-20th century. Most of the remaining surfaces are plastered, with both the brickwork and plasterwork having a modern textured coating. The farmhouse has wavy bargeboards and a roof that is pantiled, with concrete tiles at the front and clay tiles at the rear. It is two storeys high with an attic and consists of a long three-cell range. There are four mid-20th century standard casement windows with small panes. The entrance is through a two-storey plastered and gabled porch that has a mid-20th century door. Inside, there is an internal stack, with most of the shaft dating back to the 16th century, and a later gable stack to the left. The hall features a moulded bridging beam with leaf-carved stops, as well as similarly moulded joists with run-out stops. The rails at each end of the room are also moulded. The lintel over the hall fireplace is decorated with moulding and leaf-carved details. The ceiling at the service end has chamfered joists and is divided from the hall by a narrow bay for the original cross-entry. The service partition against this bay has been removed. The remainder of the interior has not been examined.
