Description
This small barn, dating from the 17th century, is located approximately 30 metres to the north-east of Fitz Manor. It features a timber frame with painted brick nogging and a high red brick plinth topped with stone coping. The gable on the north-west side is weatherboarded, and the roof is covered with corrugated iron. The framing consists of small square panels, with three sections from the sole plate to the wall plate, and short straight corner braces. The barn has two framed bays and is one storey high with a loft above a basement. A boarded door on the south-west side is accessed by an external flight of red sandstone steps. There are square openings in the gable end and at the rear, with a loft opening in the right gable. The right-hand gable end also contains a former cartshed within the plinth. Inside, the barn has collar and tie-beam end trusses, with the north-west truss featuring V-struts. There is a central cross frame with angle braces, an interrupted tie-beam, and collar truss, along with queen struts extending from the central floor beam. The roof structure includes pairs of purlins with wind braces.
