Description

Mytton Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, that likely dates from the 16th century and was remodelled in the late 19th century. It features a rendered timber frame on a brick plinth and has a slate roof. The building is L-shaped, comprising two framed bays with a rear wing that includes two long bays and one short bay. It has one storey and an attic, with integral brick end stacks and a brick ridge stack on the rear wing.

The front has a pair of gabled dormers with barge boards and finials, along with two-light metal casements. The two-window front displays two-light small-paned casements that are topped with open triangular-pedimented gabled hoods on brackets. There is a central porch featuring an open pedimented gable and a 20th-century boarded door with a radial fanlight.

On the right-hand return front, the rear wing also has a pair of gabled dormers and four windows: a pair of two-light casements with pedimented hoods similar to the front, a small casement to the right, and a flat-roofed canted bay that is off-centre to the left.

Inside, the space has mostly been remodelled in the 19th century. The ground-floor front rooms and entrance passage feature re-ordered 17th-century oak wainscot panelling. There are Neo-Gothic fireplaces and chamfered ceiling beams in the rear wing. A large former kitchen fireplace in the rear wing has a surround that is likely early 19th century, consisting of a beaded segmental arch with a key and a cornice. Some framing is exposed internally at the rear.
