Description
This is a barn located approximately 25 metres north of Manor Farmhouse, dating from the mid 17th century, with a mid-to-late 19th century addition. The barn is timber-framed with red brick nogging and has a plain tile roof. It features four framed bays and has opposed wagon entries in the second bay from the east and in the addition to the west. The late 19th century part includes a dentil brick eaves cornice.
The framing consists of square panels, with three large panels extending from the sole plate to the wall plate, likely later divided into smaller rectangular panels, and long straight tension braces. On the north front, there is a boarded loft door to the right and a pair of large boarded doors to the left. The right-hand gable end has a segmental-headed boarded loft door, a central ground-floor two-light segmental-headed window, and two segmental-headed boarded doors flanking it, along with lozenge-shaped vents in the gable above.
Inside, the roof has pairs of purlins, cross-frames with sole plates on low walls, central posts reaching up to tie beams, long straight tension braces, and short corner braces. The trusses feature cambered tie beams with raking queen struts, as well as collar and tie-beam end trusses with queen struts.
This barn is notable as a complete example of a 17th-century barn and is prominently situated in the village near Manor Farmhouse and the Church of All Saints.
