Description
The former First Church of Christ Scientist, originally built as a Methodist chapel in 1834, is now used as a library. The building features a stucco exterior over brick and has a low pitched roof that is not visible. It is a high single storey structure with a five-window range. The facade is divided into bays by Corinthian pilasters. There are two doorways, each framed by fluted Doric pilasters and topped with high pedimented heads, which are flanked by round-arched windows set in round-arched recesses, also with Doric pilasters. The building has a high parapet with a shallow central pediment and acroteria at each end. Additionally, there are cast-iron railings surrounding the basement area, topped with urn finials.
