Description

BASCHURCH C.P. CHURCH ROAD (south side) SJ 42 SW 15/17 Gralnger/Payne memorial - approx. 15m north of vestry of Church of All Saints GV II Pedestal tomb. Circa 1820. Sandstone ashlar. Square section with moulded plinth and capping surmounted by urn finial, which has fluted band and festooned garlands. Inscription on north side to James Payne (died 1837) and to members of Gralnger family on east and west faces, latter 2 largely illegible at time of resurvey (February 1987) but that on west dated 1812 or 1819. Formerly set in square railed enclosure of which stone plinth survives.
