Description

The School House is a building that was originally constructed in the early 18th century and later became part of a school before being converted back into a house. It features red sandstone ashlar with a red brick addition and has a hipped slate roof. The original structure is a rectangular block with three bays across and one bay deep, and it has a central entrance that was extended by one bay to the left in the mid to late 19th century.

The building stands two storeys high with an attic, set on a chamfered plinth, and has a continuous floor band and corner pilasters. On the first floor, there are three small 19th-century casement windows alternating with two gabled dormers in the roof slope. The ground floor features 19th-century casements set in 18th-century round-arched moulded architraves, which have plain pilasters, imposts, and projecting keystones on either side of the central entrance. This entrance includes a slightly recessed 20th-century half-glazed door within an 18th-century moulded surround, topped by a bracketed flat hood and a moulded broken pediment above.

A prominent ridge stack is located directly above the entrance and has been rebuilt in late 19th-century red brick with a toothed capping. The right side of the building has a blind window on the ground floor with an architrave similar to those on the front, and a rectangular blind opening directly above it. The 19th-century addition includes segmental-headed casements on each floor and an integral end stack with toothed capping.
