Description

Sunnyside is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early 17th century with later additions and alterations. It is timber framed with red brick infill and has been clad or rebuilt in painted brick on the east side, topped with slate roofs. The building has a basic L-plan layout, featuring an east range of two framed bays that was extended to the north in the 19th century, along with a 1½-bay range at right angles to the west.

The house is two storeys high. The main (east) range features a hewn jetty to the attic on the south side, with four rectangular panels from the cill to the tie beam and a queen-strut truss with double-purlin ends. The range at right angles has four rectangular panels from the cill to the wall plate and a queen-strut truss to the gable end, which may have also formerly had a hewn jetty; it has painted brick below the tie beam.

There are 20th-century casements throughout, with two on each floor of the east side, including those in the 19th-century addition. The ground floor windows are segmental-headed. On the south side of the range at right angles, there is a half-glazed door to the right, with a red brick ridge stack directly to the right, forming a baffle entry. There are also 19th-century lean-tos in the angle at the rear. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. A 20th-century flat-roofed porch attached to the north of the 19th-century addition is not considered to be of special architectural interest.
