Description

The Payne Monument is a chest tomb located about 15 meters south of the Church of St. Mary in Gislingham. It commemorates H. Payne, who died in 1811, and J. Payne, who died in 1819. The monument is made of ashlar stone and features a moulded base and capping topped with a ridged capstone. The long sides are simply panelled and include inscriptions framed by double pilasters. Originally, the tomb had a railed enclosure.
