SJ 80 SW BONINGALE C.P. CHURCH LANE (north side) 6/101 Former Churchyard cross, - approximately 5m south of the Church of St. Chad

Churchyard cross, now sundial. Medieval. Sandstone. Roughly carved square socket stone with chamfered corners, fragment of octagonal shaft. The surviving part of the shaft appears to have been inverted and now forms the base for a sundial, a use which dates back at least to the late C19. Cranage, Vol.I, p.4
