Description

The Matthews memorial is a pedestal tomb located approximately 20 meters southeast of the chancel of the Church of St Mary in Bucknell. It dates from around 1771 and is made of limestone. The tomb has a square section with a moulded plinth and capping, topped by a fluted urn-shaped finial. On the north side, there is a slightly recessed inscription panel that commemorates Thomas Matthews, who died in 1771, and his wife, Ann, who died in 1762. Additional inscriptions on the south and east sides honor other members of the Matthews family.
