Description

Matthews Tomb is a fine chest tomb located in St Mary's Churchyard. It features Classical detailing and is rectangular in shape, resting on a plinth with heavy vermiculated and glacial quoins. The capstone of the tomb supports a rectangular urn. The inscription commemorates Edward Henry Matthews, who died at the age of 21 in 1840 due to typhus fever.
