Outbuilding About 20 Yards South East Of Maund Farmhouse

This outbuilding, possibly a byre, is located about 20 yards south-east of Maund Farmhouse. It dates from the 17th century and has been altered in the mid-20th century. The structure is timber-framed with lath infill and is partly weatherboarded, sitting on a sandstone rubble base with a machine-tiled roof. It features three framed bays that are aligned roughly north/south. The main west elevation includes three doorways, two of which have stable doors, and one panel that is fitted with three rows of alighting ledges and entry holes for pigeons.

Inside, the framing consists of three rows of square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with some short straight braces in the lower outer corners of the upper outer panels. The roof structure includes collar and tie-beam trusses with struts at the ends, as well as two intermediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts. There are two tiers of trenched purlins, and the south bay is floored. Additionally, there is a single-bay timber-framed addition at the south end, which has a corrugated iron roof. The outbuilding is situated next to Maund Farmhouse and is included for its group value.
