Description
Portway is an early 18th-century farmhouse that has undergone some alterations in the early 19th century and late 20th century. The building features a brick front on a rubble plinth, with rubble walls at the back and a hipped roof covered in graduated stone tiles. It has a square plan and a central stack with a brick chimney. The farmhouse stands three storeys tall and includes decorative bands at the ground and first floors, along with a dog-tooth cornice.
There are two windows on the lower floors, which have boxed glazing bar sashes set beneath brick wedge lintels. The second floor features 6-pane boxed sashes. The central entrance is marked by a pedimented wooden doorcase with engaged Doric columns, leading to a recessed 6-panel door from the 20th century, which has panelled reveals and an overlight. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported that the staircase includes moulded rectangular balusters.
