Description
This is a barn located about 40 yards east of Sutton Court, likely built in the 18th and early 19th centuries. It features a coursed sandstone rubble plinth and a south-east gable, with a timber-framed structure covered in weatherboards and topped with a corrugated iron roof. The barn is probably five bays long, aligned north-west to south-east, and connects with an adjoining barn and stable range to the south-west.
On the east elevation, there are full-height ledged doors made of weatherboard in the central bay, and the top row of panels shows exposed woven infill. The west elevation is partly weatherboarded above a high plinth on sloping ground, with some exposed woven ventilation panels on the left, a ledged door in the plinth on the right, and a widened cart entrance roughly in the center. Inside, there are raking struts from the ties to the principals, although some trusses have been replaced. This barn is included for its group value with the adjoining barn and stables, which together create an interesting farm complex.
