Description
The Ford is a cottage located 150 yards south of Lane Farm, possibly dating from the 16th century. It features a timber-frame construction with a pantiled roof and a local stone stack that has a detached brick shaft. The building is two storeys high with an attic and consists of two bays aligned north-west to south-east.
The main north-east elevation includes two mid-19th century casements; one is a six-light window on the right side of the ground floor, and the other is located on the left side of the first floor. There is also a 9-paned square light on the right side of the first floor and an entrance to the left of centre. The frame has an overhang at the south-east gable of the upper floor, supported by two brackets on the corner posts. The frame features four panels from the cill to the wall-plate, with struts connecting the corner posts to the wall-plates and ties. Collars in the gables support V-struts.
Inside, the principal room has beams with deep chamfers and ceiling joists laid flat. The doorway to an upstairs room features plain chamfer stops and a ledged and beaded 17th-century door.
