Description
These are two houses on Etnam Street, Leominster, dating back to the 17th century, with a front façade dating to the early 19th century. The construction is mainly brick, with a Welsh slate roof and two brick ridge stacks, one at the rear. The houses are three storeys high and have a six-window front. The windows are late 19th-century sashes with two panes per sash, set in broad moulded surrounds, each with a gauged brick flat arch above. Brick modillion eaves run along the top. The central entrances are on the left (No. 43) and right (No. 45). The left entrance has a margin-glazed panelled door with a barred overlight, sheltered by a moulded wooden hood supported by consoles and narrow pilasters. The right entrance has a restored 20th-century door in a similar style, with a restored hood. Flanking these entrances are late 19th-century sashes in broad moulded surrounds with gauged brick flat arches. The left returned side reveals a refronting and raising of a 17th-century jettied timber-frame with brick infill. There's a 19th-century two-tier bay-window with plain sashes and three small casements. A rear wing shows 17th-century timber-framing over later brickwork, with a 20th-century composite tile roof and a brick cross-axial stack. The interior has not been inspected. The listing recognizes the group value of these buildings within the wider historic context of Leominster.
