Two Barns And Granary About 30 Yards North East Of Narstow Court

Two barns and a granary, likely built between the 17th and early 19th centuries, are located about 30 yards northeast of Marstow Court. The structures are made of timber-frame, sandstone rubble, and weatherboarding, topped with Welsh slate and pantile roofs. The long three-part range runs north to south and includes a five-bay barn to the south, a six-bay barn in the center, and a four-bay granary to the north.

On the west elevation, the south barn features four vent loops to the left of double-leaved doors leading to the threshing floor, with an additional six loops on the right; it has a Welsh slate roof. The central barn contains two rows of vent slits and ledged two-leaved doors to the threshing floor on the left side, covered by a pantiled roof. The northern granary has two levels, with tallet stairs rising from the north and a ledged door to the upper floor, next to a weatherboarded area; it also has a pantiled roof.

Inside, the small barn, central barn, and granary each have triple angle strut trusses. The granary to the south is divided by a sandstone cross-wall, beyond which it extends lower and uninterrupted into the central barn. The two southernmost bays have weatherboarded, square-panelled framed side-walls, separated by a truss with a pair of curved cruck-like principals. Other trusses feature raking struts from ties with straight-cut chamfer stops on their undersides, and similar chamfer stops can be found on some of the posts in the wall framing.
