Description

The Church of All Saints is a parish church dating from the 13th and 14th centuries, constructed from coursed rubble and ashlar sandstone, with a slate and tile roof. It features an ashlar tower and spire. The church comprises a nave, chancel, south aisles, a tower with a spire, and north and south chapels.

The north front showcases five Perpendicular windows with stained and coloured glass, stepped buttresses, a moulded parapet, and gargoyles. The east front has a four-light stained glass window with a cinquefoil head set under a pointed arch. The west front includes a 20th-century restored window and a four-light window in the south aisle. The south front features a porch with wrought-iron gates and plank doors beneath an enriched pointed arch with moulded and decorated spandrels, along with a castellated parapet. There is a doorway to the north under a moulded pointed arch with enriched spandrels, moulded jambs, and hood-moulding, as well as various two- and three-light mullions and enriched buttress finials. The castellated tower is adorned with corner buttresses and louvred lancets, topped by a ribbed spire with finials and a weathercock.

Inside, there is a pulpit from around 1621, 14th-century stalls with misericordes, and a chest. The church also houses a 16th-century font, from which the actor David Garrick was baptised in 1717, a 17th-century reredos, 15th-century tiles, and wall paintings. Additionally, it contains a Chained Library with approximately 300 books, making it the second largest in England, after the one at Hereford Cathedral.
