Description
50 and 51 Broad Street is a shop and office building from the late 19th century located in Hereford. It features a stucco exterior and a hipped Welsh slate mansard roof with brick end stacks. The building stands three storeys high with an attic and has a three-window range. The windows are plain sashes set within moulded architraves, topped by moulded stone pediments supported on moulded consoles. There is a sill band above the corbelled sills of the plain sashes, which also have moulded architraves and scrolled keyblocks. A cornice leads to a stone-coped parapet, and there is a pilaster on the left side.
The entrance is located on the canted return to West Street, featuring four-panel double doors beneath a moulded hood with enriched springers and a frieze. To the left of the entrance, there are two round-headed windows and another panelled door, which is adorned with an entablature and overlight, supported by marble Corinthian columns. The arches above are vermiculated stucco with enriched keyblocks and a sill band.
On the right side of the building, which returns to West Street, there are three plain sashes with moulded corbelled sills and segmental arches with keyblocks. The second floor has four similar sashes, and the moulded eaves feature consoles. A roof dormer contains a 20th-century casement window set beneath moulded eaves. The right side also includes three plain lights with moulded sills, a dentilled band, and moulded lintels.
