Description
No. 3 High Street is a house that is now part of a 20th-century chain store. It dates back to the early 17th century and features a timber-frame construction with plaster and a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys above a modern shop front.
Notable architectural features include a mullion and transom oriel window with a moulded sill band supported by enriched consoles, and lattice-glazed leaded lights. The gable has a moulded bressumer on enriched consoles and battens, along with ornamental glazing, a leaded light, and enriched barge-boards. The former ground floor includes an 18th-century door and flanking sash windows, all under a moulded bressumer on enriched consoles and battens, with a balustrade featuring barley-sugar-twist balusters.
Inside, the attic reveals an exposed frame and wattle-and-daub construction. The first floor showcases ogee-stop moulded ceiling beams, while the ground floor, now above the store's ground floor, features box framing, ogee-stop chamfered ceiling beams, and chamfered posts.
