Description
All Saints Chambers, formerly known as The Greyhound Inn, is a late 18th-century building located on Eign Gate in Hereford. It features painted brick construction and a slate roof, with brick end stacks that are partly demolished on the right and rear. The building stands three storeys high and has a five-window range, including two 6/6 and three 6/4 sash windows of various dates, all with stone sills and lintels. There are also five 3/3 sash windows beneath a moulded stone cornice that leads to a brick parapet with a stone canopy.
On the right side, there is a central doorway with a partly blocked opening above it, which contains a round-headed window with coloured margin-glazing, set under a gauged brick arch. Inside, there is a 20th-century stick baluster staircase leading to the first floor, and an early 19th-century dogleg staircase with stick balusters and a swan neck rail leading to the second floor. The second floor features 18th-century fire surrounds, six 18th-century two-panel doors with architraves, an 18th-century wall cupboard, and a 20th-century part-glazed door. The first floor has five 19th-century part-glazed doors, a four-panel door with an architrave, window architraves, and panelled risers.
The cellar includes ribbed springers, arched stringers, a chamfered fireplace with a corbelled lintel, chamfered-arch recesses, and a pointed-arch recess. The cellar is believed to be a 13th-century undercroft, likely connected with All Saints' Church.
