Description
No. 3 Blue Leader is a shop and dwelling located on Widemarsh Street in Hereford. It dates from the late 18th century but has origins that trace back to the 15th century. The building is constructed of stucco and features a 20th-century hipped composite tile roof with a brick end stack. It stands three storeys tall with a basement and has a three-window range, including 6/6 sashes and 3/3 sashes above, along with dentilled eaves. The entrance is located to the right and consists of part-glazed double doors and a 20th-century shop window. To the left, there is a canted return with a triple-arched entrance that has a central door and rusticated stucco detailing. The left side of the building features similar sashes and four 20th-century shop windows, with an entrance on the left.
Inside, there is a late 19th-century staircase with stick balusters leading to the Bewell Street entrance. The basement is part of a larger space that extends under No. 5 Widemarsh Street and includes a 15th-century pointed-arch vault, two moulded ashlar pointed-arch doorways, a wrought-iron grille, three ceiling bosses, and two small recesses.
