Description
21 Widemarsh Street is a former shop and dwelling located in Hereford. The building features an early 19th-century front that conceals an earlier core. It is constructed of stucco and has a hipped plain tile roof, with corrugated asbestos on the rear pitch. The structure stands three storeys tall, including an attic and cellar, and has a four-window range with 6/6 and 3/6 sash windows, stone sills, and a parapet with stone coping. The shop front, dating from the 19th century, is bowed and includes 20th-century double doors beneath a diamond-patterned overlight. It also has a moulded and modillioned cornice, a late 19th-century 2/2 sash window to the left, and a four-panel door set within a round-headed arch at the far left.
Inside, the building retains elements from the 17th century, including decorative plaster ceilings and cornices in the front rooms on the first floor, as well as chamfered ceiling beams. The 18th-century dogleg staircase features turned balusters.
