Description

The Mansion House is a house, now shops, dating from circa 1697. It is located on Widemarsch Street, Hereford. The building is constructed of brick with stone details and has a hipped roof covered with Welsh slate tiles, with 20th-century composite tiles to the right. It is two storeys with an attic and cellar, and has a five-window front. The windows are 6/6 sash windows with moulded architraves in painted reveals, stone sills, and stuccoed ashlar quoins. The eaves have an ornate, corbelled and moulded cornice, and there are two raking dormers flanked by gable dormers with moulded pediments, all with 2/2 casements and moulded eaves. A central passage features an arched, moulded lintel. On the left is an early 20th-century shop front with a part-glazed door and ornamental plasterwork, including 20th-century tiles depicting a rural scene. To the right is a 20th-century shop front cut into a matching design. At the rear, the construction is late 18th century, featuring coloured brick flat arches, 6/6 sash windows, 20th-century casements, and a moulded wood modillion cornice, along with two gable dormers with moulded pediments. The interior of No. 25 retains panelled walls on the second floor, evidence of which is visible behind modern boards. The first floor has 18th-century panelled walls, window shutters, a dado rail, and cornice work. The ceilings on the first floor are ornate plasterwork from the 17th century, while the ground floor retains mutilated 17th-century plaster ceilings and a original stone fireplace. No. 29 has 18th-century panelling and window shutters on its first floor.
