Description
This building is a house located to the rear of numbers 2 to 5 High Town in Hereford, dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of brick and features a plain tile roof with brick corner stacks at the right front. The house has three storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with a three-window range. On the right side, there is a 19th-century six-over-six sash window in a broad beaded case, a central blocked opening, and on the left, a 19th-century cross window with a casement, all set under segmental arches. A storey band runs across the façade, with two similar casements and a brick-blocked opening to the right. The central entrance features a 20th-century half-glazed door with an overlight that has glazing bars, along with a storey band above.
The right side of the building has returned storey bands and a tier of cross windows. The rear includes a tier of windows and a plastered wing with three blocked openings on the first floor, topped with a storey band. Inside, there is an 18th-century winder staircase with turned balusters and a moulded string and rail. The attic reveals an exposed timber-framed closed truss. On the second floor, there is a half-glazed panelled door, while the first floor features a two-panel door, a moulded and decorated plaster ceiling, a bolection moulded fireplace, and wall cupboards. The ground floor includes two six-panel doors and a plank door. The cellar has a blocked doorway with ashlar jambs, a plank door, and is lined with brick and stone. At the time of the survey, the building had been unoccupied for at least 30 years.
