Description
This barn, located about 20 yards south of Marsh House Farmhouse, dates from the 18th century and features a sandstone rubble base with a timber frame, weatherboards, and woven infill. It has a half-hipped tiled roof and consists of seven bays arranged in a west-north-west to east-south-east alignment. The south elevation includes two boarded openings set into the weatherboarding, positioned on either side of ledged two-leaved doors with a cambered head. These doors are slightly left of center, and above them, short studs rise to the wall-plate. The north elevation displays two rows of woven panels beneath the wall-plate. Inside, the barn has pegged king-post trusses, each featuring two pairs of parallel struts—one pair rising from the king-post and the other from the tie-beam. Unusually, the king-posts are secured to the beams with five pegs each. The wall-framing is constructed with heavy scantling and includes three square panels from the cill to the wall-plate, indicating a remodelling of an earlier barn. Marsh House Farmhouse is not included in this listing.
