Description
New Mill is a building that was originally a mill and is now a house. It likely dates from the late 17th century to the early 18th century, with some later alterations. The structure is made of sandstone rubble and timber-frame, with sections that are partly brick-nogged, partly weatherboarded, and partly rendered. It has Welsh slate roofs that are half-hipped to the south, along with brick stacks. The building has a T-plan layout, with the main range oriented north-north-east to south-south-west and cross-wings at the north end. It is one storey high with attics.
On the north elevation, there is a weatherboarded gable on the left, which is partly underbuilt in brick and features two off-centre ledged doors, one for each floor. To the right, the main range has two windows, late 20th-century dormers with raking tops, and a ledged contemporary door to the left. The exposed frame of the main range consists of three panels high from the cill to the wall-plate, with angle struts. The east elevation showcases a dentilled brick eaves cornice. There is also an insurance plaque on the left side of the rendered upper floor, and a ledged door in a gabled late 20th-century porch on the left-hand side. Access to the interior was refused during the resurvey in February 1986.
