Description
No. 4 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling, dating from the 18th century. It features a stucco exterior and a composite tile roof. The building is three storeys high with a cellar and has a two-window range. The first and second floors have 20th-century 6/6 sash windows set between pairs of pilasters, with recessed panels. There are moulded architraves, a moulded band, and a frieze decorated with garlands at the eaves.
The shop front, added in the late 19th century, includes central margin-glazed double doors with a blocked overlight, flanked by plate-glass windows that have curved returns. The shop front is topped with an enriched cornice and a hood supported by brackets, featuring a panelled soffit. The entrance to the right has a 20th-century part-glazed panelled door with an overlight, framed by a 19th-century fluted architrave.
At the rear, there is a 19th-century 8/8 sash window and two 20th-century 6/6 sashes on the first and second floors. The ground floor lean-to has a late 19th-century tripartite window flanked by 19th-century 6/6 sashes, all under a 20th-century felt roof.
