Description
A house, now shops and dwellings, dating from the early 18th century. The exterior is roughcast with a steep-pitched roof covered in plain tiles, featuring a stone-coped gable parapet and brick end stacks. The building is three storeys and an attic, with a four-window front. The central two windows are canted oriels with 2/2 sashes; above these are 11/6 and 2/2 sashes. To the right is a mid-19th century plain sash window in a wide, moulded frame. To the left is a 20th-century cross-window. The windows are a mix of 6/6 sashes, a plain sash, and a cross-window. The eaves are wooden modillion style, missing on the left side, and continue as a cornice to the gable, which features a 20th-century metal casement. A restored 20th-century roof dormer has a two-light casement in an oak frame with a coved head. Original 18th-century rainwater goods are present, along with a tablet displaying a fettered swan. There are three altered early-20th-century shopfronts, featuring part-glazed doors; one door has an overlight (No. 51A), and another has a two-panel door with cast-iron spikes above (No. 52).
