Description

Fairtree Farmhouse, dated 1772 in the basement and likely incorporating an earlier house, is a farmhouse made of red brick with a hipped plain tiled roof, restored brick stacks, and a brick modillion cornice. The building has two storeys, a basement, and attics with two gabled dormers. It features three bays, with the central bay slightly advanced and topped by a pediment. The windows are 20th century 16-pane glazing bar sash windows set under segmental heads, and there is a Diocletian window in the tympanum of the pediment. The central entrance has a six-panel door beneath a fanlight, framed by a restored doorcase with fluted pilasters and a broken pediment. To the right are single storey extensions that were formerly a school room and stables, comprising two and four bays respectively, along with a 20th century extension on the left. At the rear left, there is an attached late 19th century oast house featuring three square brick kilns with pyramidal slate roofs, which are now used as garages. The interior includes a tunnel vaulted basement and a datestone located on the key of a doorway.
