Description
Flights Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th century. It features a timber-framed structure with brick nogging, some parts rebuilt in brick and others rendered. The roof is slate, with deep eaves and verges at the gable ends, and there are brick gable-end stacks with set-offs.
The farmhouse has a two-room plan with a central entrance hall and a wing behind the right-hand room. In the 19th century, the house was remodeled; the eaves at the front were raised, and bay windows, a balcony, and a porch were added to the front. Additionally, an extension was built at the back where it meets the rear wing.
The exterior is two storeys with an attic and features a symmetrical three-window south front, showcasing 19th-century two-storey canted bay windows with a wooden balcony supported by columns above the porch below. The central doorway is complemented by a 12-pane sash window above. The rear north wing, located to the left, has restored timber-framing in the gable-end and a two-storey lean-to extension in the angle.
Inside, there is much exposed timber-framing. The right-hand room has a deeply chamfered framed ceiling and a timber-framed rear wall, while the left-hand room features two chamfered axial beams and a timber-framed partition wall on the right.
