Description

Number 10 High Street is a building dating from the 16th century, with alterations and additions from the 17th and 18th centuries. The front is finished in stucco and features a parapet, with the top floor projecting slightly. The building has three storeys and is two windows wide, with sash windows that include glazing bars on the first and second floors. There is a large Victorian shop front that has a moulded cornice and fascia. The rear is faced with brick, and a brick wing at the back contains some late 17th century mullion and transom windows, along with an 18th century brick wing further back. Inside, there are late 17th century staircases featuring moulded strings, turned balusters, and pendants on the newels, as well as some late 16th century panelling. The Market House and all the listed buildings on the east side of High Street form a cohesive group.
