Description
No. 8 High Street is a 17th-century building that was refronted in the early 18th century using red brick. It stands three storeys tall with a cellar. The building features a parapet with moulded stone coping and a heavy stone cornice with modillions underneath. The corners are accentuated with chamfered stone quoins. There are four sash windows across the front, each with thick glazing bars and enriched stone keyblocks set within segmental arches. To the left on the ground floor, there is a segmental-headed passageway that includes a flush-panel door and a Victorian shop front with a moulded cornice and fascia. The roof is hipped and tiled, featuring two large modern gabled dormers. At the rear, there is a wing with exposed timber framing. No. 8 High Street, along with the other listed buildings on the east side of High Street, contributes to a cohesive group of historic structures.
