Description

The barn on the south side of the farmyard at Bollitree Castle Farmhouse, along with an adjoining arcaded farm building to the south, dates from the early 19th century. Constructed from sandstone rubble with slate roofs, the barn features a waggon entrance on the north side, which has a slated canopy, and a lean-to addition to the left. The entrance in the south wall is currently boarded up.

The adjacent farm building is notable for its open arcade consisting of ten round arches supported by round piers. On the first floor, there are seven openings with plain stone surrounds and pointed heads, with the left-hand opening accessible via external stone steps. The left end of this building, which connects to the barn, is open on the ground floor and has timber posts that support a timber-framed wall with brick infill. This wall includes a central post braced down to a rail and up to a wall-plate.

The southern end wall of the farm building is embattled and features a re-used moulded pointed doorway, quatrefoils, a carved head, and a plaque inscribed with "WP (?) 1819". The east wall, which faces a road, is blank. Inside both buildings, there are bolted king-post trusses.
