Description
Bollitree Castle Farmhouse is a house built around 1700, with some earlier elements, and was remodeled at the rear in the mid-18th century. It is constructed of sandstone and has tile roofs. The front block, dating from circa 1700, faces west and features a symmetrical ashlar facade. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has five bays. The windows are sashed with glazing bars, and above the modillion cornice are three gabled attic dormers. The doorcase, which is from the mid-20th century, includes pilasters and a shallow segmental pediment, possibly replicating the original design. The roof is hipped with chimneys at both ends.
At the rear, a wing connects the front block to a parallel range. The south and east facades of these sections were remodeled in a Gothick style during the mid-18th century. The south side features a one-bay linking wing with windows of two ogee lights and a door to the right. The end wall of the rear range has two bays, with windows of two ogee lights on the ground floor and sashed windows with glazing bars above. The east wall of the rear range consists of three bays and includes an embattled parapet. The outer bays have windows of two ogee lights, while the middle bay has one. The north wall of this range has octagonal corner turrets with louvred openings, connected by an embattled parapet. On the ground floor, beneath a moulded string, there is a small pointed window with a chamfered surround. Above it, below another string, is a tall window with a chamfered surround and segmental head, featuring leaded glazing and a central timber mullion that branches into Y-tracery.
Inside, the two front rooms on both floors of the front block are lined with raised and fielded panelling. The dog-leg staircase has an open string with three turned balusters for each tread and a ramped handrail. In the parallel range at the rear, one room is lined with oak bolection moulded panelling. Exposed parts of a timber frame suggest that an earlier building was covered in stone during the 18th century.
