Description
Weston Hall is a house dating from around 1600, with earlier elements. It is constructed of squared sandstone rubble and has a tiled roof, forming an L-plan. The building has two storeys and an attic, with the main facade facing north-west. This facade features two bays on each side of a gabled porch, along with two string courses. The windows are arranged symmetrically and are mullioned, with rebate and ovolo moulding. The outer bays have two-storey canted bay windows, each containing four lights at the front. Above these, under the gables, are 3-light attic windows. On either side of the porch, there are 2-light windows on both floors. The first-floor window of the porch has three lights, while the attic window has two. Above the round-headed doorway is a cartouche displaying the arms and crest of Nourse. The gables are topped with coped ball finials. There are chimneys to the right of the left-hand bay and projecting from the right-hand return wall. The left-hand return wall features two string courses, mullioned windows, and two gables with attic windows. The interior was not accessible during the survey, but previous records by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England noted moulded ceiling beams, fireplaces with moulded surrounds, and panelling. The south end of the south wing, located to the right of the main facade, was reported to contain remains of a timber-framed building and a roof partly dating from the 15th century. The building was formerly known as Lower Weston.
