Description

New Court is an 18th-century country house, possibly with an earlier core, remodelled in a Gothic style in 1809 by H.H. Seward. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar with hipped slate roofs and has a U-shaped plan, featuring a central entrance on the south front and lateral chimney stacks.

The south front is three storeys high, with pilaster strips defining the outer bays and a continuous crenellated parapet with turrets flanking the central bay. The facade is arranged with a 2:1:2 bay arrangement, recessed central section and 2-light casement windows in the outer bays. Single-light vertical sash windows with a single vertical glazing bar are found at ground floor level and are topped with labels. The centre has a 3-light window, and a 4-light window sits above it on the first floor. Further sash windows with single vertical glazing bars and matching labels flank a projecting porch with a half-glazed door.

Inside, the entrance hall retains an exceptional coved Rococo plaster ceiling dating to circa 1750.
