Description
The Crown and Anchor Inn is a 17th-century inn with 18th-century additions and further alterations from the 20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with painted brick infill, a sandstone plinth, and painted brick shafts supporting sandstone stacks, all topped with a slate roof. The building has two framed bays aligned east to west, which are obscured by later additions at the west end, extending to the south, and a 20th-century lean-to porch at the angle. There are also 20th-century additions to the rear and remnants of a former central entrance with end stacks. The inn is two storeys high with irregular fenestration, including 2-light casement windows on the left and a similar window on the right, along with the lean-to porch that has two glazing bar sash windows and a 20th-century window to the right of the porch. The framing is largely intact but altered, consisting of four square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with braces extending from the bottom rail of the top panel to the main posts. The interior has not been inspected.
