Description

Lugwardine Court is a country house, now used as a school, dating from around 1770, with 20th-century additions and alterations. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar with a hipped slate roof. The house is two rooms deep, with a central entrance and axial stacks. It has three storeys and a cellar, and features a string course, a central pedimented forward break, a dentilled cornice, and a blocking course. The facade is arranged with a 1:3:1 window rhythm, mostly featuring glazing bar sashes, with plain sashes on the ground floor. A central window on the second floor has an eared architrave, while below it is a central Venetian window with decorative glazing. A Tuscan portico provides access, containing an inner semi-circular-headed doorway with a decorated fanlight and a half-glazed door. The interior has been extensively remodelled for school use.
