Description

This building is a barn and cowhouse, now used as a store, located about 15 yards north-east of Humber Court. It dates from the 17th century and was extended in the mid-19th century. The structure is made of sandstone rubble with some brick dressings, featuring a half-hipped roof at the south-east end covered with plain tiles and corrugated iron sheeting. It has nine bays arranged in a north-west to south-east orientation and is partly two levels high.

The original section consists of the five south-easternmost bays, which include a central wagon bay with opposing cart entries. The walls feature two rows of ventilation slits. On the main south-west elevation, there is a ground floor window, a loft door, and two doorways at the south-eastern end. The building was extended in two stages with two two-bay additions at the north-west end. The earlier addition has openings with brick dressings and cambered heads, including two loft openings, two doorways, and a large doorway on the south-west elevation. The later addition features a square opening on both floors and a doorway.

Inside, the original part has a collar and tie-beam truss with three struts and a V-strut above the collar at its north-west end. The rest of the roof mainly consists of intermediate collar and tie-beam trusses with two struts and/or raking struts in the lower corners. The building encloses the yard behind Humber Court and is included for its group value.
