Description

MONNINGTON-ON-WYE CP MONNINGTON-ON-WYE SO 34 SE 4/51 Lych gate 2.9.66 GV II*

Lych gate. Late C17, with some C19 restoration. Timber-frame with rendered and plank infill under a stone tile roof. Square plan, gabled in all directions. North and south faces have moulded architraves to the square-headed doorways, flanked by narrow rectangular panels. East and west walls have rectangular panels below with planks in grooves, upper part open with pierced splat balusters. Gables all have two curved raking struts and bargeboards with light mouldings. Apexes have pendant finials. (RCHM, Vol 3, p 152).
