Description
The lychgate west of the Church of St Mwrog is a gabled structure built in timber framing on high rubble stone side walls, topped with a replaced slate roof. The rear gable, which faces the church, is original and features jowled posts that support a cambered tie-beam, which is slightly arched on the underside, held up by curved braces. Above the tie-beam are two raked struts, and the gable is finished with later plain barge boards and a wooden finial.
The front gable has full-height stone piers that connect to the churchyard boundary walls, supporting an open tie-beam truss with raked struts made from sawn timbers, likely dating from the 19th century. This gable also has plain barge boards and a wooden cross at the apex. The stone side walls feature six-light unglazed openings with plain mullions.
Inside, the lychgate has a two-bay layout with a central truss; the posts support a cambered tie-beam with raked struts, also probably from the 19th century. The roof structure includes single purlins and cusped wind-braces towards each end. There are side benches for seating. Attached to the front are late 19th-century cast iron double gates, which are decorated with scrollwork, circle motifs, and fleur-de-lis finials.
