Description

Old Crow Cottage is a house from the 17th century that was altered in the mid-19th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill on a rubble base and a stone-tiled roof arranged in diminishing courses. The building has a T-plan layout, with the main range consisting of two and a half framed bays that run roughly north to south. There is a rubble chimney and a brick stack on the west side. At the north end, a cross-wing of two framed bays is attached, which has an external chimney at its west end. The cottage is single storey with an attic.

The framing includes two and three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in some of the upper corners. The roof structure consists of collar and tie-beam trusses with struts. On the east front elevation, the windows are 19th-century casements. The main range has a two-light window and a small hipped-roofed oriel window on the ground floor, along with a gabled dormer that contains a two-light window, although one light is blocked. The main entrance, located in the half-bay next to the cross-wing, features a 19th-century ledged and battened door. The gable end of the cross-wing has a two-light window on both the ground floor and in the attic. There are also attic lights at the south gable end of the main range, and a lean-to outshut is present at the north end.
