Description

Old Crow Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins dating back to around 1400, which has undergone alterations in the 17th century, mid-19th century, and mid- to late 20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill set on a rubble base, along with painted brick and rubble replacement walling. The roofs are covered with stone tiles arranged in diminishing courses. The building has a T-plan layout, with the main single-bay range oriented north-east to south-west and a large rubble chimney with a brick stack located at the east corner. At the south-west end, there is a cross-wing consisting of two framed bays, also featuring a large rubble chimney with a brick stack on its south-west side. The farmhouse is single storey with an attic.

The framing consists mainly of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in some upper corners. It has collar and tie-beam trusses with struts, although the framing at the north-east end was replaced in the 20th century. On the north-west front elevation, the main part includes a ground floor 3-light casement window and a gabled dormer with a 2-light casement. The gable end of the cross-wing has two ground floor 2-light casements (one of which is blocked) with plank weatherings, as well as an attic light. There is a lean-to outshut at the angle between the ranges, featuring a single-light casement to the north-west and the main entrance to the north-east, which has a half-glazed door from the 20th century. A 20th-century wing is attached to the south-west side. Inside, the hall range retains a cruck truss.
