Description
Llanithog Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a late 16th century core that has been altered in the 18th century and extended in the early 19th century, with further alterations in the 20th century. Originally a timber-framed house, it has been largely refaced, altered, and extended using sandstone rubble, and features a Welsh slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan aligned east to west, facing south, with an early 19th century extension at the east end.
The farmhouse has a central axial stack and an external stack at the west gable end. It is single storey with an attic. The south front includes one 2-light casement window in a half-dormer to the left and two 2-light dormer windows from the 20th century to the right of the central axial stack. There is a small 2-light casement window below the eaves to the left. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light casement windows to the left of a part-glazed ledged door. Further to the right, there are additional 2-light casement windows with segmental heads framing a square-headed second doorway with a similar door to the right. The 19th century extension to the right features a segmental-headed doorway to the left of an external stone stair leading to a loft entrance.
Inside, the former close-studded external wall to the north is obscured by later minor additions. The lower left room has a chamfered cross-beamed ceiling and a large open fireplace with chamfered jambs. The interior of the 19th century addition to the right retains a cider mill and press.
