Description
Upper Ridway Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 16th century or early 17th century, with an addition from the 18th century and further minor alterations from the late 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of whitewashed sandstone rubble and features a roof made of corrugated asbestos and part Welsh slate. The building has a long range that is aligned northeast to southwest, with a later wing added to the northeast end that extends to the northwest, forming an L shape. There is a large main axial stack and additional gable-end stacks on the wing, with one stack backing onto a former through-passage. The farmhouse is single storey with an attic.
The southeast front has two gabled half-dormers and 20th-century windows; to the left is one 20th-century window, and to the right of a lean-to porch with a ledged door are a two-light casement window and a three-light glazing bar casement window, both featuring segmental heads. Inside, the kitchen reveals a plank and muntin panelled screen that rises to the roof, along with chamfered details and further chamfered and moulded ceiling beams.
