Description
This is an early 19th-century house, originally a single dwelling, now divided into three separate dwellings. It is located on Bridge Street in Kington. The front of the building is stuccoed over brick, with a hipped roof covered in Welsh slate. A brick stack sits on the ridge, and there’s a 20th-century brick stack at one end. The house is three storeys high, plus a cellar, and has a three-window front. The upper floors have 6/6 sash windows with beaded casings, and smaller 3/3 sashes above those. Boarded soffits are visible. The central entrance has a six-panelled door with an overlight, set within a moulded case and beneath a simple, moulded wooden hood supported by brackets. Flanking the central entrance are small canted bays with 2/2, 6/6, and 2/2 windows, all topped with pentice roofs. The right-hand returned side of the building is brick, while the left-hand returned side is stuccoed. The entrance to the second dwelling (No. 48) has a glazed six-panel door in a fluted doorcase with a simple porch, a flat roof decorated with modillions, and a sidelight. A rear wing, numbered 49, has plastered walls and a 20th-century two-over-two sash window above a 20th-century single-pane window. The left-hand return of this wing is roughcast over rubble and has a brick stack. There is also a rear range to the property.
