Description
This building is a barn located about 60 yards northeast of Aylton Court, likely dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It features a high rubble plinth and is timber-framed with brick infill that is three panels high, topped with a slate roof. The barn has six structural bays arranged roughly east to west. On the south elevation, there are full-height ledged doors slightly left of center, while a late 19th-century cowshelter, which is not included in the listing, obscures the right side. The left side has diagonal struts.
Inside, the trusses include angle struts from ties to principals or V-struts from collars supported by three struts, except for the east side of the threshing floor, which has a cambered tie-beam. This tie-beam carries two queen struts that support an interrupted collar, from which rises another pair of queen struts to an upper collar that supports V-struts. The barn forms a continuous range with the adjacent former stables, which are now a cowhouse, enclosing the north side of the farmyard.
